This processional, entitled Fantasy on LEONI, is a Hebrew tune that was included in John Wesley’s Sacred Harmony in 1780 and then reappeared in The Christian Lyre, Joshua Leavitt’s popular American Hymnal in 1830. It is said the composer Olivers heard this tune sung by a great tenor, Meyer Leoni, and sought to create a hymn from its captivating melody.
