This composition was inspired by a picture taken when I first held my daughter on the day of her birth. The poem expresses the anticipation of a new relationship that would last for therest of my life. - It seems important to share that this poem could be perceived from the viewpoint of the child as well as her parent. - The recording you will hear first was created by the students attending the Belmont Vocal Arts Intensive music camp in the summer of 2024. I am grateful to them for their sensitive rendering of my creative effort.
The second recording was made by the Chamber Singers of Belmont University with Chris Smallwood playing the piano accompaniment and better represents the score shown here.
Something wonderful happened on that day.
Something I thought or felt was here to stay.
Might have been in my mind;
something I knew was real;
still it seems marvelous now that I know
that something wonderful happened to me.
It was that day, that wonderful day
when I met you.
Now I know what it means
to be loved from the heart.
It was you, on that wonderful day.
